The PolyTarTM drilling fluid system is a water-based fluid designed to provide a trouble-free drilling experience in SAGD operations. The system utilizes non-toxic additives to completely eliminate tar accretion and foaming while allowing for re-use of the mud on subsequent wells and provides operators with environmentally-friendly disposal options for sand and fluids.
The PolyTarTM drilling fluid system consists of polymers and a proprietary sand-cleaning additive which allows for excellent tar separation from sand at the shakers, and virtually tar-free discharges from the centrifuge underflows.
The system has been highly successful in drilling more than 300 SAGD wells for several operators since its introduction in 2004. Well-bore instability, down-hole emulsions, stuck pipe or liners, foaming and high waste volumes have not been issues
