Drilling Fluid Systems: PolyTar
The POLYTAR system for heavy oil sands is a water-based fluid designed to strip the oil off of tar or bitumen laden sands, and loosely emulsify the hydrocarbon into the circulating system. The sand comes out clean from the system over the shaker screens and centrifuge underflows. The oil is demulsified from the circulating system by means of a breaker. Drilling fluid consists of polymers and a proprietary additive – Q’Clean to strip the tar/bitumen from the sands.
